The concrete around your house, done once and done properly
A driveway is the first thing anyone sees at your place and the surface you drive over twice a day. A patio is where you actually live in summer. A footpath is the thing you use without noticing until it heaves and trips someone. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is worth doing right, because concrete done badly is expensive to take out and concrete done well is there for decades.
Driveways
New driveways on bare sections, and replacements for the cracked, sunken or just plain ugly ones on established homes. We look at how the water runs off it, what is going to drive on it, and where it meets the road and the garage floor, before we set the levels. Drainage channels at the entrance, sump grates where they are needed, and control joints placed so any cracking happens where we decided rather than where the slab decides.
Footpaths and side paths
Paths down the side of the house, to the clothesline, around the garage, out to the shed. Small pours, but they still get a compacted base, reinforcing where it matters and a finish that is not slippery when it is wet. If the old path is the reason your side yard floods, we will sort the fall at the same time.
Patios and outdoor living areas
Patios, pool surrounds, barbecue areas and the slab a pergola or an outdoor room sits on. This is where the finish matters most because you are looking at it up close, so we will talk through the options with you - a plain broom or sponge finish, exposed aggregate, coloured concrete, or a cut pattern - and what each one costs and how it wears.
Foundations and slabs
Floor slabs and foundations for garages, sleepouts, sheds and extensions, set out to the plan and poured with the reinforcing and the thickness the job calls for. If there is a building consent involved, the work is done to the consented detail and we work in with your builder's programme.

Site visit and quote
We come and look at the ground, the access and the levels, talk about what you want it to look like, and give you a price for the whole job - prep, pour and finish.

Ground preparation
Excavation, base course, compaction and drainage. This is the part that decides whether the slab is still flat in ten years, and it is the part we do not rush.

Boxing and reinforcing
Formwork set to the levels, steel mesh on chairs, control joints planned. You can see exactly what you are getting before a single truck arrives.

Pour and finish
Poured, screeded, floated and finished in the window the concrete gives us, then cured. We tell you when you can walk on it and when you can drive on it.

Residential Concrete Questions
How long before I can drive on a new driveway?
Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks, but as a rule you can walk on it the next day and put a car on it after about a week. Heavier vehicles need longer. We will give you the timing for your slab when we finish it, because it depends on the mix, the thickness and the weather.
What finishes can I have?
Broom finish, sponge finish, exposed aggregate, coloured concrete and cut or saw-cut patterns are the common ones. Broom and sponge are the most economical and give good grip when wet. Exposed aggregate costs more and looks the part on a patio or an entrance. We will show you what each looks like and what it costs before you decide.
Can you take out the old driveway as well?
Yes. Breaking out and removing the old concrete or asphalt, digging out and preparing the new base, and the new pour are all part of the one quote, so there is nothing to organise separately.
Will it crack?
All concrete moves a little as it cures and as the ground under it changes with the seasons. The point of control joints is to give that movement somewhere to go, so any cracking happens neatly along a joint rather than across the middle of the slab. Proper compaction of the base and the right reinforcing do the rest.
